A humbled heart

I know it has been forever since I have written... I will post an update and once again apologize for not staying connected as well as I had hoped I would. This post, however, is about something deeper than any of that.

A week ago, Jeremy and I went out to eat. We don't go to sit down restaurants as much as we would like, so this was a special treat. We had a great time talking and just being together. Afterwards, we headed over to Joanns so I could browse the jewelry and scrap-booking items. We actually left without buying anything! (Seriously, amazing!)
On our way out of the shopping center, we saw a man with a sign that simply read, "Hungry" I usually look right past people begging on the street corners, I hate to admit this but my heart is hard when it comes to the poor and needy. Now, I fully support homeless shelters, I pray for people who are homeless, jobless, orphans, etc. I have helped at such shelters, I donate items to the needy. However, when it comes to men and women begging on the streets for money, I typically look right past them. I am sure you have heard about people that pretend to be poor to make an easy buck. My thoughts have always been, if they are really homeless and need help, they will find it. (I know kinda harsh.)
Looking at this man standing there shaking(it looked as if he didn't have full control of his arms and body) holding a sign that didn't ask for money or drugs, it just said hungry. I encouraged my hubby to turn around and give this man our leftovers from the restaurant. It wasn't much, but it is what we could give in the moment. Jeremy gave it to him and said, "God Bless you." The man said the same to Jeremy and immediately opened the box and started eating.
It broke my heart and as I watched the simple exchange I broke down in tears. I felt helpless in a world of lost and broken people. Lost and broken people that I look past on a regular basis. A hurting people that need nothing more than the true Bread of Life.
Jeremy and I have had our financial troubles(as most young couples have.) We have wondered if we could afford to do this or that. We have never gone hungry. We have never been without a warm bed. We have never been without clean clothing. We have never felt so alone and hopeless.
I don't know how this will change my life style. I do know, though, I won't just look past hurting people. I know that I will be more thankful for what I have been blessed with. I will try harder to reach people, to love people, and to further the kingdom of my amazing father God.

Days 3 - 10 plus more

I am putting a hold on my Etsy shop. I am planning on working, organizing, and scheduling time and having a "re-launch" sometime closer to the summer. There will still be a few things up for people to purchase and even some new items, but there will be much more to look forward to as the summer draws closer. I am hoping to net-work better and get my blog and myself out there more. Ideas are welcomed!

As the new year started, Jeremy and I decided that we needed to do things differently this year. Three of our main goals as a couple, 1. Eat better and exercise more. 2. Take more pictures. and 3. Go more places and do more things!

Everyone says they want to eat better and exercise, but we really are doing it! We are not big on veggies and fruits. We have entered some into our diet and I am keep a "food journal". I can already tell the difference by just adding these foods. Now we just need to work on a daily exercising schedule.

The reason we decided to do the 365 (in this case 366) project is so we can take more pictures and hopefully this will encourage us to get out and do more. We are such home-bodies and lazy bums. It is all changing!

(Day 8 - Jewelry making! I already sold the key necklace and the heart bracelet to my awesome neighbor!)

Something else that I have made my personal goal, as I stated earlier, is to blog more and to get out in the blog world more. I was doing so well when my schedule was a little calmer during the summertime. However, I now work full time again and do about a million other things for everyone else. I am trying to work on setting aside some "me" time, which is when I plan on doing crafts and blogging and sometimes pampering myself in other ways. It is so important to take time away from the busy-ness and be alone and that is what I am trying to do. I'm such a do-er for others that I all too often forget about myself. I'm sure there are many that can relate!

This is my beautiful cat, Tay. She walked into my family's home before Jeremy and I were married and she adopted us. Once we got married and my parents moved out of state, guess who came to live in our apartment with us? She is our first pet and we love her so much!

Day 1 and my Resolution(s)

My hubby and his cousin are doing the 365 day project and I thought that it would be a wonderful idea to do one as well. I thought it would be fun to post my pictures on facebook, and then come on my blog and post the picture and write a little bit about it. I am hoping that this will get me posting at least something once a day. I hope to post more often.

I looked up the term Resolution and this is what I found:

a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.

The word resolution becomes a common word to use around this time of year and usually it just means something you hope to do, but probably won't. My goal is to be a woman of my word, therefore when I say I am making a resolution, I mean I am making a firm determination to change to do something new.

I want to take more pictures in the year 2012, I want to post more often, I want to be healthier, I want to try new things. This past year was a bit tough and I am hoping for a more promising and better new year!

This is a picture of a drawing my oldest brother-in-law made of our family. My hubby and I are the ones sitting by the cat on the far right. My hubby's family has meant the world to me and I love them dearly, so I thought why not start the new year with them!

Shop Time

I had an amazing Thanksgiving that is actually lasting all weekend long! My family is great and I have loved spending every minute with them. We are getting ready to visit my parents, brother, and other family in Michigan this week and we are so excited! There is so much to be thankful for! More pictures of family to come.

I have been working hard, making new items, taking pictures, editing and uploading. So excited to share my new items with you! Thankful for Family

This month I have really been thanking God, a lot more than I have before. Something that I realized at some point in my life is that God really would like to hear our thanks, and not just our complaints. So, when I start a prayer, I always start by saying thanks. However, this month most of my prayers have been prayers of thanks and praise. My heart is more thankful too, not just my words. It really is a great place to be, to know that you are in the center of God's will and to be thankful for it.

I am really thankful for my amazing family! My Mom and Dad are truly amazing people that I look up to so much. My wonderful, handsome, funny hubby! My little brother and first best friend, Stevie! My Mother and Father-in-law who are always willing to hang out and play game with my hubby and me! My three brothers-in-law, Brandon, Aaron, and Josh, great older brothers to my hubby and great friends! My sisters-in-law, Amanda, Eryn, and Breeann, wonderful women that I love getting to know. My three nieces that I love so much and that are such blessing, Aimee, Payton, and soon to come SophiaMarie. Our(Hubby's and mine) grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc. Every single one of them I am thankful for and couldn't ask for a better family!

Thankfulness

It has been forever since I have written anything new! I have been so busy with work, school, family, and more. However, that isn't a very good excuse to not write a little something. At the very least a little update every once in awhile.

Well, I am reorganizing my time and hoping that I will make a time slot just or blogging! Therefore, you will see me a lot more often.

The next few blogs I do are going to be of things and people I am thankful for. It seems that most people have skipped Thanksgiving and have gone right to Christmas. Well, not me! I love Thanksgiving and I am going to write a little about thankfulness in every new post this month. I hope you enjoy!

I decided to look up what the color red means. I found, through wikipedia, that Red means:

Passion

Anger

Sacrifice

Warning

Red is passionate.

It grabs people's attention!

Red is my color of choice when painting items.

It can be found in almost every room in my house.

Crescent Pizza Pockets

First Step, is to have these on hand, or something like it and preheat oven to about 350 degrees. (or whatever package says.)

I made Turkey Bacon and Turkey Meat for the inside.

My favorite pasta sauce. You can use pizza sauce if you prefer.

Spread out the dough. Add a spoonful of sauce of choice. Add cheese and other toppings (bacon and meat). Roll close. Put in oven for about 12 minutes and enjoy!

We are big meat eaters, but these can easily be made with just cheese or with veggie choice items! Happy creative Cooking!

On my mind tonight

There is a lot on my heart today. Hopefully I can successfully express into words what I am thinking. What is Church? A building. Christ in you. A body of believers. A home. What is fellowship? Friends. A body of believers. Sharing how God is moving with another person. A family.

Something I lack in my life is a church to call home and a body of believers to call family.

I work at a Christian Preschool inside a church. I also teach Sunday School at this church. I love my job, my co-workers are wonderful believers and have become like family, the church/school is "home" to me, the Pastors and their families are all amazing and are like family. However, I do not sit in a church building or in a home and listen to a message. I do not go out to lunch after church and talk to friends. I do not hang out with people on a regular basis. I have very few that I share life with.

This fact, for lack of better words, hurts. I love seeing people and kids at my jobs and talking with people briefly about things, but I want my relationships to go further and deeper than that. How does one accomplish this goal?

Now don't get me wrong. I have some amazing friends. I have a wonderful husband who loves God with all his heart that I get to share life with! We have a great big family of believers that we see often and spend time with. We have a best friend couple that live in the same apartment complex as us that we can share almost anything with. I know I have friends and relationships, I am not complaining that I have "no" friends.

Sometimes though, the people listed above are busy, family isn't always the best to talk about certain things with, sometimes friends live far away and can't gather together at the drop of a hat. I want, I need a church body that I (we, really) can be a part of. That we can grow from and share life with. Something needs to change and now it is my (and the hubby's) job to figure out how! It really is an encouraging thought.

You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you." -John 15:12-15

I hope through this rambling I may have encouraged someone to be a better friend. Or to make a positive change in your life. One thing to cling onto is that Jesus calls us friend and that He is more than enough. If that isn't encouraging, I don't know what is.

Someday, when I have a little more time to network and perfect it, I would like to do my own Inspiration workshop. Stick with me friends and I am sure together we will go far! This week's prompt was, Family Room.

My Family Room growing up was always the place we watched tv and maybe had a quick chat. Sometimes, it was the room for sleepovers, movies, and pizza! At some point when my parents were redecorating, they decided to paint and asked me what the living/family room should be painted. I suggested this orange color. To my surprise they painted it that color! They loved it! I loved it! It was kind of like being inside of a wonderful pumpkin, less smelly and gooey though. It brought a lot more chatting, laughing, and happiness! Crazy what a paint color can do, eh? My parents moved to Michigan a few years back and what was one of the first things they did? You guessed it, paint the family room orange! It is wonderful and makes me feel like I am in the "right" place when I am there.

My goal is to buy a house and paint the family room orange. I want to laugh, share in serious and fun talks, to live and to love in that special room.

This is what my current family room looked like until yesterday:

We just bought a new couch, so we are in the process of getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. Slow but a fun and wonderful process! A lot of these items are pass-downs or craigslist finds!

Someday I will have a lot more to work with, I am sure. For now, though, I love our family room. It is warm, cozy, and feels like home.

10 years has passed...

Writing something yesterday was far too emotional for me. So, here I am the day after the 10 year anniversary.

Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news 10 years ago. I am guessing that most even know what they did and how they felt the week following.
10 years ago yesterday, I woke up for school and it was like any normal day. Until I realized it wasn't. As soon as I started about my routine, I knew something was off this morning. I knew something was different. After getting ready, a friend came to my house for a ride to school and she asked me, "have you seen then news?" I hadn't. We walked outside to my dad, watching tv, as the towers were falling, smoking. My dad said, "you know, your mom is in D.C."
All day at school, we watched the news. We watched as our country was being attacked. We watched in shock, in confusion. For a 15 year old Sophomore it really didn't make much sense.
I remember watching the news for the rest of the week and the weeks to follow at school, no homework was due, it was as if time stopped. Which in a way, for Americans, it did. (My mom was there, but made it home safely.)

There were moms and dads that didn't make it home though. There were husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, daughters, and sons that didn't make it home.

10 years ago a lot of people lost their lives. 10 years ago America stood together a little more broken, but strong and united. 10 years ago many men and women made a commitment to themselves to join the military as soon as they could, so they could fight for our freedom. Within those 10 years, many have lost their lives fighting for freedom.

Never forget.

Thank a firefighter, police officer, someone in the military or their families next time you see them. They sacrifice more than we could imagine.

Biting my finger nails!

We owned parakeets, that is about as exotic we get. :)

My hubby is listening to some music, but I don't know what it is.

I have no idea! I was an everything type of person. I dressed more punk, however I had total school spirit. I was in leadership, JROTC, FHA, choir, track, cross country, and soccer. I was the girl who did everything and had friends in many social circles.

8. What is your lucky number?
My favorite number is 10.

9. If you had to go 30 days eating only one thing, what would you choose to eat?
tri-tip and potatoes.

10. What is your favorite Bath & Body Works scent?
Vanilla

This is a pretty good article of what I am going to be talking about. So, please take a few minutes to read and then come back.

I have been struggling with how to write about this, since I found out about this story. I feel like I have been keeping this from all of my friends in blog world, and that is not something I want to do anymore. I'm sure some of you have heard stories about this before. A man in the military, back from being deployed, suffering from PTSD, taking his own life. I have read a few stories like this, and have even prayed for the families of those people I had read about. This one though... This one was different. This story hit my heart like a ton of bricks. Let me explain why.

Jared went to school with me our senior year. Not only that, but we were good friends that year. We even went on a few dates and hung out at school a lot. We went to the movies with friends and would go 4-wheeling in his jeep. Sometimes my mind will go to thoughts of high school days and fun things I would do or say with my friends. Often times I will think of these friends and wonder where they are and what they are doing. Now I know what happened to Jared and it breaks my heart. Although I hadn't talked to or seen him since graduation 7 years ago, he was still a part of my life. I knew him for 1 year, a year that helped shaped me into the person I am today, a year that I will never forget.

All the talk of him being in the army and having PTSD, and what his wife is doing, it is all so important. I think though, people forget that he was someones son, brother, husband, daddy, friend. So please take a few more seconds to read this article and get to know a small part of the Jared that I will forever remember. The sweet, fun loving, joyful man that I knew and will always miss.

Water

Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World, and Greek

5. What is one cd you own that people would laugh if you told them you actually bought that?
I don't know. Probably a lot. :)

6. What is one job/career you told yourself you would never do even if it was your last resort?
Probably something that has to do with public adult restrooms. Some can do it, I'm just not one of them.

7. How did you decide on the name{s} of your child{ren}?
No children as of yet.

8. What is one show you refuse to miss no matter what?
Use to be Greys Anatomy. Now, I don't have one since I can just watch it later online.

9. How many miles would you say you drive in a week?
Depends on the week. Not very many, since I work 10 minutes away from my home and my hubby drives a lot of the time.

10. Who is one celebrity you wish would just go away & disappear off the face of the earth never to return?
I wish I didn't have to hear about a lot of the celebrity drama that seems to follow us no matter what. Charlie Sheen is someone I don't want to hear about anymore!

Crock Pot Recipe

For all of you "on the goers" or just people who LOVE to use their crock pots (who doesn't?), this is a fantastic crock pot recipe with just a few steps! I got this idea from a good friend, Jenna, and have since made it my own! Thanks Jenna!

I call it Jeremy's Salsa Dip :

1. Get the crock pot out. (The picture above is what mine looks like and I love it! Thank you great grandma for the awesome wedding present!)

2. Put in a pound of turkey meat (or hamburger meat, whichever you prefer.)

3. Add salsa of choice. I usually use the whole jar, but if you want to make a smaller portion just cut everything in half. Example: 1/2 lbs. of meat, 1/2 jar of salsa, etc.

4. Throw in some Velveeta Cheese. I've used a block of cheddar cheese instead of Velveeta and it is just as good. The only difference I've found is the Velveeta Cheese melts a lot faster and has a smoother look.

Put your crock pot on high and stir occasionally. I'm not sure how long this process is, but I want to say it cooks for about an hour and a half. I will be making it in the next few days and I will update this time when I do.

Once the dip is done, get some chips and enjoy! I am a very picky eater, so I do not enjoy this recipe; however I make it for my hubby and he loves it (thus the reason I have named it Jeremy's Salsa Dip.)

2. Who was your celebrity crush{es} when you were younger?
See above, also JTT (Jonathan Taylor Thomas)

3. Who is your celebrity crush{es} now?
Zac Efron, he can sing, dance, act. I'm also a big fan of Justin Long.

4. What is one of the strangest/unique things about you?
I love to clean and organize! I'm told that is pretty weird.

5. What are three fears you have?
I don't want pictures of my fears: Spiders, most bugs that fly, and children feeling unloved.

6. What is one question that you have been asked so much that if you are asked one more time, you will punch someone?
I won't actually punch someone and this answer may seem weird. However, I have a hard time not being annoyed when kids ask me, "Can I have a drink of water?" First, they ask at really inappropriate times, such as nap time, when they know the answer is no. Or they will ask when the answer is obviously yes, such as when we are running outside or when everyone else is lined up to get water. :)

7. What nationality/nationalities are you?
A better question would be, what nationalities am I not? haha, but the one I claim the most and feel most connected with is:

I like most things about me :) God made me exactly who I am and I love it!

9. What is/was your favorite three reality shows?
I don't have TV, so these all are a was for me-

10. What three celebrities are you guilty of liking that everyone else seems to hate?
Probably the Kardashian sisters, although I also think they are crazy and total drama. I also like Tyra, whereas most people don't. :)

Encouragement

Encouragement. What a simple word. Is it simple to encourage others? How about when you are discouraged? How about when the person who needs encouragement has hurt you and discouraged you in the past? Is it simple, easy, to encourage others? It takes effort to encourage. It takes energy. It takes strength. It sometimes takes being humble. Sometimes it means being forgiving, empathetic, understanding. The greatest thing is that God calls us to lift others up, if we seek Him first, then He will help us be what we need to be to encourage and help others. God wants us to help others, to fellowship with other believers, to love people as He loves them. God, creator of the world, forgave and forgives me, understands me, is my strength, encourages me on a daily basis. Who am I to not put effort in doing the same for His children?

I hope you take time to read some of my most favorite verses, they truly are better encouragement than words I can come up with:

"You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand when I awake, I am still with you." Psalm 139: 1-18

The Buzz about Me

1. If you could live back in any time period, which one would you pick and why?
The 1950s, except I know that I would be the total rebellious 1950s type of woman, but still I love the idea of wearing dresses and being the perfect housewife! Who doesn't like June Cleaver?

2. What is your favorite color?
turquoise, of course!

3. What is your favorite fruit?
Strawberries, although I do not like strawberry flavored things, like ice cream or candy.

4. What is your dream car?
I have a newer Toyota Corolla and I LOVE my car! However, when I see older cars like this one in town, I do a double take and dream of owning one like it someday.

5. What is/was your favorite Disney movie?
Beauty and the Beast, of course. A close second is a newer one, Tangled!

6. What is your favorite genre of movies?
I'm sappy and I love the romantic comedy type of movies where the good guy always wins.

7. What's the last movie you watched?
Tangled :)

8. Busy city life or simple country life?
Can I choose small town near the country life?

9. What is one thing you tell people about yourself that they just don't understand?
I'm not always bossy, I just like to be in charge. I am a go getter and I want to get things done and do them right. It can sometimes come across the wrong way, if I am not careful how I present myself.

10. Did you ever want to change your name when you were younger & if so, what did you want to change it to?
I've never wanted to change my name, which is kinda weird now that I think about it.
